How it Started
The Cribtet began when four musicians moved into the same house (The Crib), and decided to make the trip to the living room once a week to workshop some original music. The group quickly expanded to a six-piece band, with all six members bringing in original compositions and arrangements.
The group first met each other studying at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, at the University of Hartford. Our time in school, studying under some great musicians from Hartford and New York City, eventually led us to record and release our first album.
Our Sound & Influences
When The Cribtet began, there were a few big influences that fundamentally shaped our sound. First and foremost, we have a Hard-Bop rooted sound with heavy inspiration from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. As a Hartford-based band, we also take much influence from Jackie McLean and the sound of Hartford’s historic music scene.
Where Do We Play?
Most of the time, we are at The Crib. But we are based in Hartford, CT, and travel around New England and New York for performances. We play music venues, bars, private events, and everything in between. If you’re interested in working with us, send us a message!
